Cáritas Coimbra with strong presence at the European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing

Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra had a strong presence at the European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing – 2016 European Summit on Innovation for active and Healthy Ageing, event organized by the European Comission, in cooperation with the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions Which took place from 5 to 8 December in Brussels.

On 5 December, the European Union and the Government of Japan organized a Global Cooperation event dedicated to discussing strategies to strengthen internacional collaboration on active and healthy ageing, based on the conclusions of the G7 ministers meeting, United Nations, WHO, OECD and G7.

A high-level policy and strategy event was held on the 6th, designed to take into account the recommendations made in the Blueprint on the Digital Transformation of Health and Care, a document for which Cáritas Coimbra contributed in the elaboration phase.

Cáritas Coimbra presented the societal benefits of the digital innovation projects in Brussels through the participation of Carina Dantas as a lecturer on the TD3 panel, which illustrated experiences such as GrowMeUp regarding the adhesion of the older population to the new technologies, as well as their integration in the ecosystem of the reference site Ageing@Coimbra.

On 7 December the great emphasis was on the European Innovation Partnership for Active and Healthy Ageing, of which Caritas Coimbra is partner, represented by Carina Dantas and Ana Jegundo in the coordinators of group D4 – Age-friendly Buildings, Cities and Environments.

In this context, Carina Dantas was again a lecturer in the presentation of the 2016-2018 Innovation Plan for Friendly Environments of all Ages, in panel TD18. It was a very participated panel, with interaction of the audience, aimed at implementing friendly initiatives for the elderly across Europe.

In the Exhibition Hall of the event there was a stand of the GrowMeUp project, during all the Summit, where it was possibible to watch demonstrations of the GrowMu robot and talk to members of the project consortium to learn more.
GrowMu circulated, taled and show some of its services to the participants of the event, reason why it was object of great interest and attention throughout the exhibition.

GrowMeUp is a project co-funded by the European Union under Horizon 2020, which aims to create an innovative robot that aims to support people over 65 in their daily activities. It involves eight partners from six different countries, one of which is the Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra, led by the University of Coimbra.
